Votives are offerings. Objects left, without the intention of recovery or use, in a place perceived to be sacred for religious or superstitious purposes.

The leaving of votives is an ancient practice which continues to thrive in modern Thai society today. The people leave these gifts in order to gain favour or merit with supernatural forces or to ward off malevolent spirits.
