The $ value of personal work.
Personal work is key. There’s no such thing as a successful commercial photographer who only shoots commercial work. Properly thought through personal work leads to commercial commissions, puts the photographer in control and showcases the way you want to shoot. It drives the direction of your practice.
Art buyers and creatives are looking for photographers that can shoot campaigns.
A personal series that delivers narrative combined with a consistent personal aesthetic clearly demonstrates a photographer can shoot a campaign.
A photo series workshop focused
on your personal visual voice.
The Series Project began life as an experiment. There are endless photography courses, mostly technical stuff like how to light, how a particular photographer works etc., etc. Information and theory. What about practice we thought? What about a workshop about what to shoot & why to shoot it for professional photographers that already know how?
We created a photographic course with a tangible photographic outcome, one specifically aimed at helping photographers to ideate and actually create new personal work. A unique programme designed as a catalyst to help a group of photographers rediscover, refresh and refine their visual voices where attendees complete a series of personal work in just 6 weeks. From scratch.
Photographers can arrive and begin with nothing - no ideas whatsoever. We encourage a totally clean slate because the courses covers everything; from conception and ideation, through planning, idea articulation, narrative & treatment to execution & edit selection. The workshops (both online and location based) are based on a series of hour-long webinar sessions followed by live Q&A’s and culminate in 7 days shooting.
The experiment we began 4 years ago worked. Each attendee finished with a folio ready, PR-able photo series that echoed their personal style and purpose.
Series Project attendees have won over 40 international awards with their projects - an achievement we’re extremely proud of. What’s more they’ve landed client briefs as a direct result. Perhaps more importantly, each attendee interrogated and reinvigorated the “why” and “what” of their practice and emerged with a refreshed and refined visual voice.
